"A question worth a million", an interactive comic book on rural development

Experience the elaboration of a development project from A to Z

The comic book "Une question à un million, l'histoire d'un investissement dans le développement rural et durable" (A question worth a million, the story of an investment in rural and sustainable development) was written by Tiphaine Chevallier (IRD, Eco&Sols) and Isabelle Bernoux, in scientific collaboration with Narindra Rakotovao (LRI University of Antananarivo) and Lydie Chapuis-Lardy (IRD, Eco&Sols). Illustrated by Caroline Gaujour, it is available online at this link.

The comic book is presented as "a fictional story whose sole objective is to make people think about international development aid". In addition to its particularly successful playful aspect, the comic book also clearly illustrates the particular context of the Itasy region (Madagascar), a region that the SeqCOI project intends to study: poor soil fertility, flooded rice fields emitting more methane than a non-flooded crop, a population that is very vulnerable to climate change.
